SPRING ON THE WAY......................

It seems that warm weather is coming our way, that will be nice for the students but especially the teachers.  For the next week the 6th grade class will be practicing for the state assessments.  If you have not heard yet, the state assessments have change this year and will be administered to students at a later date.

Students are use to taking the test for 3 days, this year the test will only be 2 days.  Students will also not be familiar with the format that will be given this year.  Because of that the majority of our time in reading class will be designed to get accustomed to the new test format.

In social studies the class has been learning about Hebrews and the beginning of Jainism.  Recently we have been discussing the Greek World; especially talking about the Spartans.  The class has been very enthused about this and class discussions has been very beneficial.

Football season is under way for the Jackson Heights Cobras and it has started off great.  We were able to win our first two games of the season 26-0 over Horton, and 52-6 over Oskaloosa.  The boys have been doing a great job listening and working hard during practice.  All the hard work has paid off in games; next week we will be traveling to Valley Falls to take on the Dragons.  Kick off is at 7:00 pm and it will be their homecoming game.
School is in full swing and all of the students are working hard towards their goals.  In reading class we just finished reading a short story about an Indian tribe.  This week we are going to begin reading a story about a family that emigrated from China to the United States and the hardships they went through getting accustomed to a new culture.

In Social Studies we just finished up on Mesopotamia and the fertile crescent.  Students performed well on their tests and were able to make their own irrigation ditches.  Next, we will be traveling to ancient Egypt to learn about their culture.
